LADY M - BUSY CATCHING FISH

(All pics courtesy of Captain Steve of the ol' BIG M)

I just like to point out here that Captain Steve found the BSB a little deeper then one would think at this time of the season. Are we going back to the old calender when BSB would start to make their way off the beach?

A TRUE - KING WHITING

5.5 lbs

Sent to me by the Fishark...caught a few days ago at Eastmans and officially weighted from what he said.

We used to catch some big whiting around here...used to, but this particular fish moves into that "pretty special class"....

IT JUST NEVER ENDS AS FAR AS CLOSING OFF AREAS OFF

OUR SHORELINES FOR FISHING

FULL SIZE IMAGE - Source: VINEYARD GAZETTE: Three Sites Under Study As Marine Sanctuaries in Waters Off Vineyard

The Vineyard-based plan calls for halting all commercial fishing in three areas south of the Island. The areas under consideration include the Nantucket Lightship site, a vast ocean area 100 miles east of Menemsha, an area known as banana shoals south of the Vineyard, and a third area southeast of Squibnocket Point. All three areas are historically rich fishing and spawning grounds for flounder, cod, tautog, yellowtail, fluke and mackerel.

I would not start cheering just because they say here "targeted at the New England commercial fishing industry"..... Be careful with what you ask for here....

WHERE CAN I GO AND FIND SOME BFT, BONITA, ALBERTS, MAHI

LOCALLY IN THE NY-NJ BIGHT?

I was asked this question over a week ago by a private vessel fishermen who just wanted to go out and catch a few fish for dinner. I told him that this season, you can probably go out to any lump and bump along the side or up on the flats along the Mud Hole and find a few of what you are looking for....and I added, its your choice if you want to stay close and insight of land, or move off a little further and poke around.

So here to quickly answer this question is a list of spots you can look at, and I know the GPS #'s for a number of these areas are somewhat easy to find on the world wide web or if you spend a Andrew Jackson or two at one of the local tackle dealers that carry those fancy laminated charts.

Good luck there...and remember, carry both Tsunamis, small chrome hammered jigs and fresh spearing!

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE LAST

SPEEDY EXPRESS?

Image

Thanks to one of our members here and at one time, an old time mate from Sheepshead Bay who moved on, he sent me an email this morning about going out to the west coast, Anacortes Washington, and gave me a heads up that the last Captain Speedy - SPEEDY EXPRESS is in full fledged whale-watching mode.

One last thing here...take a good look around the above website....some incredible photos as well as some pretty interesting information about the Seattle WA. area.

A NOT SO FUNNY STORY

IF YOU OWN A PARTY AND/OR CHARTER BOAT

I don't know what it is lately, but I have been hearing more stories on and about, heads or more accurately, the toilet being broken on either a party boat or charter boat. It happens....its a semi-mechanical device that you learn to use properly at a very young age...or you would expect someone to know without going into further details here.

Last night I get a call from a captain after 8. I was surprised since I spoke to him just after 5 when he was at the dock, and I thought he wanted to know any of the latest tuna reports but instead went off on how he just got home and was all gunked up after working for a few hours on his commode after someone (we don't blame customers in a service industry...right?), proceeded to stuff/place/insert something into the head, causing the 'cranis' to not work properly, with the resulting foulness associated with a backed-up head.

I listened and I have to say here, was laughing since I have been there, as well as I can imagine, many others who are reading this and thinking back about having to pull some pretty unspeakable things from either out of the head itself, or the pipes from the throne, and at times the gut-wrenching aroma when we have to now become an unofficial sanitary engineer during those few stink-sweaty hours. In fact that brings to mind when at work years ago, we finally gave up with cleaning and trying to keep a functional head, and decided to just take it out of the boat, of course in the summer......all the while thinking and saying, "yes, now get used to taking plastic bag dumps you heathens" as the sweat beaded off our heads that very day.

Getting back to his story, he then went into detail of what was in fact inside the head toilet...which does make you wonder what is going through people's minds when sitting/using one of the greatest inventions in the history of mankind, and then someone who lives in the United States placing things inside of the head that should instead be disposed of in one of the garbage cans on the vessel.

Nonetheless I don't know if there is a rash of these type of boat fixes lately, or this is due to some of the captains I speak to, but I said at the end of the call, "and so many guys out there think it is so rosy owning a party/charter boat!"

Well we did a little more with the pics then talking here, which I bet some of you guys out there prefer. Fishing is pretty good now, and I am just wondering where the weather we have been having lately, changes. It has definitely been more early fall-like then summer like.

I believe it is going to be some good fishing season offshore in the coming months....don't miss out.

Just sent in by Captain Steve of the LADY M on today's mid-range tuna trip with Captain Cliff.

Good day reported with 5 - YFT to 50, along with a few albies, skippies, mahi and a codfish that weighted slightly over 25 lbs!
