This is ridiculous! It just reopened and now a 6 week closure on a species nearly at 250% above target biomass and FFL holders operating with a small 50 lb daily quota! That income threshold for keeping your FFL in the DEC’s George LaPoint proposal is becoming more difficult by the day.

Problem is that NY only gets 7% of the overall seabass quota. Only way our commercial season will open for a longer period of time is if NY gets a larger piece of the pie. That is what we should be fighting for. Other states like NJ get 20% or more.

As some are now becoming aware of at this time...

These Changes Only Apply to Commercial Fishing
Black Sea Bass Fishery Closure


Effective Friday, July 19, 2019, the Black Sea Bass commercial fishery is CLOSED. This closure will remain in effect through August 31, 2019.

• Effective September 1, 2019, the daily trip limit is set at 50 pounds. This trip limit remains in effect until further notice.

Daily Trip Limit Increases
Bluefish

• Effective Sunday, July 14, 2019, the daily trip limit for bluefish is increased to 1,500 pounds. This trip limit will remain in effect until further notice.

Summer Flounder (Fluke) - for holders of the summer flounder permit only.

• Effective Sunday, July 14, 2019, the daily trip limit is set at 280 pounds. This trip limit will remain in effect until further notice.

These actions are taken under the authority of 6 NYCRR 40.1 (u), and quota distribution schedule referenced therein.

All fish commercially harvested must be reported on Vessel Trip Reports (VTRs). If you need extra VTRs or would like information on online reporting, please call 631-444-0857.
