JUNE 4, 2019 - ANOTHER GOMaine HALIBUT: CAUGHT ON & WITH?

Due to all the questions I have received over the last three years on how to target and catch Atlantic Halibut here in New England, I have to pass this along as the fv FINLANDER landed another beauty caught on handgear:

This is 55 inch halibut was caught on a heavy diamond jig tipped with mackerel and was the first one caught by deckhand Chris.

We have noticed a particular trait with halibut and it is not in having some special jig, tube or bait, but in fact getting the jig or teaser in front of a halibut while drifting along. That's it!

Don't fret about needing something special if you want a halibut....get the jig and maybe tip it with a piece of meat if you are trying for a halibut. It is still more luck than anything else, but it is a great sign in seeing these special fish come back again.
