Seemed similar to Sandy. Not a huge wind event, but boy did it drop some rain! If I recall correctly I don't think it ever blew over 80 during sandy and it was actually classified as a tropical storm. But the problem was the rain soften up the earth and the trees came down. Moon tide didn't help either.

Re: Hurricane

Postby EC NEWELLMAN » Sun Sep 16, 2018 9:08 am will go down as one of the most impactful US weather events within the last hundred years. The storm had a unique unwavering track as it approached the east coast with very little variability in the earlier weather models, and the problem now is that it slowed, stalled and has become similar to a southeast Asian monsoon with unending heavy rain. As famed weatherman Joe Bastardi tweeted:

You can only judge the magnitude of the storm by its ranking vs history, In The combination of the wind, rain and surge, is likely to make this the worst storm in NC history, and that is saying something given how many times hurricanes have hit the state.

Just this morning at 0900 hours they are saying the worst is yet to come with an 18 TRILLION GALLONS OF RAIN to come down. The damage to the Carolina region and the effect to the people and the economy will definitely note Florence as one of the most damaging weather events in this countries history.

Ps.....watching video of looters is just so disturbing to say the least....
