Good morning Kenny and everyone else.....
Kenny haven't we spoken in the past through PMs? There is no banning here for asking questions, OR tough debate on a issue.
I look back at where this site has come from and the number of people that has passed through it, and I wonder to my self 'was it worth it'?
Was the 'juice' worth the 'squeeze'?
This is point which a handful of individuals continue to miss about FISHING UNITED.COM
It is not about the so called great ideas, but about telling stories here on this fishing site. I love intelligent conversation, stimulating thought and putting the reader in the story tellers place. There are figuratively speaking almost a hundred or so fishing websites. The information is out there on any fishing topic people want to discuss, and that is what brings people to those websites.
I have come to learn a number of lessons since we formed this site.....people management is by far the toughest of all the issues to overcome in keeping a website together.
I don't promote, nor will I or the other owners of this site will allow 'trash talking' or senseless dialogue here that supposedly educated people would want to continue to debate. If you or anyone else is attracted to that type of atmosphere, that is your prerogative.
FISHING UNITED.COM is not looking for the 'cheap calorie' of constantly attacking, revisionist history, childish photoshoping of copyrighted images, or writing threads which come off as the 'cat chasing its own tail'. Where does that get you? What has that done for you after you read it?
I grew up in a place where all I did if I was not playing ball was in going out fishing, catching fish and spending time with fishermen. I have been fishing since I was a young teenager, and I still am doing this as I approach fifty. I spend easily 200 days on the water here, and other then my wife and my kids, there is nothing else I rather do and spend my time doing then being out on the ocean fishing.
Now getting back to this site, the people we have here are here because of their own free will and attracted to it because of the ideas and stories we write about here.
The same for the moderators, a few which have moved on, and fewer still that I do really miss. They give their personal time unselfishly, and that is how I judge a moderator.....I look at what their 'body of work' has been here....what have they given of themselves in the information and dialogue to the many people out there who they have never met? It is not about having their name attached to any specific forum.
It is not about being allowed into the moderators forum, but in a personal self satisfaction of putting thought to words which people will read. That is the key....it is very powerful since I have mentioned that on this internet, there are hundreds of places to go and spend your time at.
If you call what this individual has 'great ideas', well then 'God Bless'.
My ideas, thoughts, core values, personal convictions and what I call 'walk away value' is what I bring to FISHING UNITED. Maybe it is because I want to bring what the captains who run the fishing boats, the legendary rod and reel fishermen, and the commercial fishermen who make or have made a living from catching fish, would want to continually come here to read.
I am proud that FISHING UNITED.COM has within a years time, spawned a few sites which have not only copied our name but our mission statement, but also another person who started writing here and is now in the process of starting their own blog....all because they first wrote stories here.
Kenny at the end of the day if you think about what you have written for everyone to see on any fishing site, was it worth the time....and did the reader walk away with something 'more' then they knew before that will help them catch fish, or more knowledge about the past?
I will leave you with this......If this 'cult of personality' is what attracts you to that other site, again that is of your choosing.....and if you believe everything that this 'cult of personality' spews, well then that place may be better suited for you to spend your valuable time at.
Everyone is always welcome to contribute ideas and thoughts that are constructive to FISHING UNITED.COM
Thanks Kenny and maybe you can spend some time with us here this winter catching a few codfish with the fishermen I like to spend my time with...........
