I knew about this message going around early this afternoon, and my public comment below which I posted on socialized media. This is extremely serious when you read through as this may essentially PROHIBIT what the party & charter boats have been conducting at and along these piers for over the past century.......

The reality...this will be tested soon enough when a vessel engaged in for-hire fishing leaves prior to 0600 hrs and docks after 2300 hrs. What then....The NYPD has to have the local 61 Pct, ESU Truck 6 and Harbor A' now giving special attention to deter, stop and or arrest operators and fishermen who are boarding or departing for-hire vessels in the Bay? Was this the original intent coming out of the socialist City Hall labyrinth run by our "pay to play" mayor when this finally came about?

First, the owner/operators in the Bay have to organize quickly and contact the city council member from that area, C. Deutsch and notify him of the negative economic impact to vessels engaged in fishing, and which are not carrying patrons for dinner and cruising services. Next is to check if the City can quickly impose such a rule, or that this has to go through a regulatory process first vetted at the local Community Board for stopping an activity that has not caused any harm to residents and other businesses surrounding the fishing piers along Emmons Ave.

There also have to be clarification from either the Parks Department and/or NYPD if there will be 'enforcement' in stopping any 'fishing' vessel activities during the stated closed period hours....and the issue with some owner/operators being employed by the City of New York. Do you attempt to be the test case in being stopped from boarding or allowing customers to leave your vessels and putting yourself into the 'wearing of silver bracelets' and the free backseat car ride over to the 61?

Be smart about this and reach out to the local politicians in the area. Many of us know why this happened, and whom caused this to happen, but the principle point going forward is to get the clarification from either those in City Hall or the local city agencies that will be involved....

Now that I see the notice posted here, I do not know of anyone who writes 'Sheeps'H'eadBay in this manner, especially if this is an official release from a New York City agency.....

Looks like the fishing vessels are getting lumped in with the riffraff booze cruise boats.

The quick Friday morning followup on this situation in the Bay...

Thanks to a "person" in our local Sheepshead Bay fishing community, contact was made with the appropriate New York City agency on this 'hours use' situation in which fishing vessel operators were not notified on the closed hours or in which this notice "did not apply to their business" with the Emmons Ave piers.

This particular agency will now be making a clarification and a distinction between a party-charter: HEADBOAT engaged in fishing services and those party vessels: engaged in catering, dinner and cruising services.

The new REGULATED USES - pertaining to vessels that use the city docks in Sheepshead Bay were directed at vessels which carry customers for catering and cruising, and vessels engaged in carrying customers for the purpose of fishing should continue going about their business.

As many from the Bay know, few party boat fishing vessels operate or even board customers before 6am anymore, and barely a handful at this time come in after 11 pm night which is normally the blues - stripers - vampire scup local trips dock and offshore wreck trips depart.

Also which again should be noted, the appropriate agency which regulates the use on the piers in Sheepshead Bay, failed to properly make the distinction in the notice which led to the blowback seen on socialized media.

Once again, thanks to the person who helped here....

6 pm Update.....

Early this afternoon we found out through the person working on this that City Hall was contacted, and at this point this new regulation impacts ALL VESSELS that are using the docks on EMMONS AVE.

It was quite a blow to hear this, and that one remedy "may be" a signed written petition from those who fish on the fishing vessels in Sheepshead Bay that they (party and charter boats) remain unaffected by the new rule on the docks being closed during the hours originally stipulated.

We also come to find out that 'someone' or better yet, a concerned citizen, contacted City Hall (I would imagine through the 311 system) that vessels were operating and away from their assigned piers after 11 pm last Friday night, which may have been the final straw tin having the docks closed from 11 pm to 6 am.

For now this regulation is in place, and the for-hire operators will have to somehow work around it, that being the closed for public use of the docks on Emmons Ave, until further clarification and/or exemptions are put in place by those at City Hall.....

A sad day to say the least for the for-hire fishing fleet here in Sheepshead Bay...
