TUESDAY MORNING DOCK TALK - JUNE 18, 201

Captain Joe of the 'HELEN H' sent along some info this morning, the first being on putting upon the deck the 82 lb Atlantic Halibut as well as in starting:

SUMMER: COD - HADDOCK & POLLOCK (see dates below)

On the halibut:

"Captain Jeff Gutman and the boys from the Belmar NJ area where up for 2 days of fishing. After limiting out on fluke we decided to go haddock fishing. There was no great size but excellent fishing on mostly keepers. John Cebuskl of Wellington NJ hooked the 82 pound Halibut first thinking he was hung in the bottom."

Notice this was a "two gaffer" fish with Matty getting the first one in the right spot.

On the upcoming Summer Cod - Haddock - Pollock schedule...

These are haddock readings seen on their last trip!

The Helen H will be running weekly COD - HADDOCK & POLLACK TRIPS all summer long. Last summer fishing was outstanding with the scheduled trips on:

All Fridays: 7/20 - 7/27 - 8/10 - 8/17 - 8/24 - 8/31 (as of right now)

Contact the HELEN H office for further info and booking....

Next is the issue of the MODERN FISH ACT which I wrote about yesterday, and it seems the news is getting out on the Twitter-sphere on what I originally called the poison-pill buried in the legislative language. "Hello, freshwater possession limits anyone?"

Folks, remember the congress-critter who famously stated a few years ago, "you have to pass the bill to find out what is in it," here it is, and this is extremely problematic for getting the NOAA/NMFS jack-boots off the neck of the fishing industry and 'Joe Fishermen.....'

Also notice how there has been little conversation about the Modern Fish Act, and that alone should be worrisome and be reminded we have the upcoming Bluefish scoping hearings, the MAFMC A.P. on fluke - scuppo's and biscuits and then the MRIP re-calibration bomb being deployed during the first week of July.

Joint Meeting of the MAFMC and ASMFC Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Advisory Panels

Oh, just before Captain Greg of the YANKEE CAPTS was pulling out of the Key West Command Center last night, he sent along the recently issued emergency USCG bulletin concerning this type of PFD. From the notice, and the USCG asking for "wide distribution" on this matter, I would recommend passing this notice around to others in the industry.

Finally in NY RFHFA matters, we continue to ask for owner/operators and fishermen - if they would be interested in putting their name into the mix "when and if" MRAC advisory positions just happen to open up.

We need concerned people to step up in order to make real-change at the MRAC and that starts with fresh faces and being motivated to stop the "same old, same old." There are those on the recreational advisory side of the MRAC who have been there much longer than the furniture in room 1, and it is time to drain the swamp at the East Seatucket DEC Bunker.

Folks it is extremely easy to complain and just toss your hand up and worse, give up. It only takes a little time to get involved, even a bare few moments in emailing our state politicians on what is going on within the MRAC.

Below is the link, and no better place to start then in contacting Governor Cuomo to let him know that we have advisors on the MRAC that can serve for an UNLIMITED period of time. This has to immediately be changed........
