As many of you know, I run a kids fishing program for boys and girls through the Lutheran High School Summer Camps (LuHi). Last year my trusted friend and counselor Cory (aka Striped Bass 91) posted the results of some of our trips. Due to college coursework, he won't be working with us until Session 2. So until he returns, I thought I'd post a report with some photos that will hopefully remind members here to TAKE A KID FISHING!!
Monday 6/25- Safety Orientation and Field Trip to Causeway B&T. Larry won a $25 gift card & Marc
won a trip aboard the Pt. Jeff Osprey. (Thank you Capt. Amanda for the donation)
Tuesday 6/26- First field trip aboard the Capt. Jim III in Freeport. We battled through cool temps
and 25mph NW winds to boat apx. 60 fluke and sea robins. (2 keepers )
Wednesday 6/27- Crabbing Trip- 20 students worked hard for apx. 25-30 LARGE crabs, releasing
twice as many shorts. Crabs were either real big or real small.
Thursday 6/28- Second Boat trip aboard the Celtic Quest IV. We caught 200+ fluke (no keepers)
and at least 100 sea robins. The kids had a blast with all of this action.
Friday 6/29- Third Boat trip aboard the Bay Princess at Captree. 150+ Fluke (2 keepers)& 50+ Sea Robins kept the kids busy. We also had a boated a sand shark that proceeded to vomit crab after
crab and we also had one seabass on this trip.
In summary, numbers were great and the sea breezes were comfortable. If you look at these pictures you'll see that it isn't always about filling the box. More to come next week.
