It was two weeks I heard about this, and thanks to Mel Deak of MELS-PLACE for this information on this very special world record fish:

The VOYAGER's 2.5-day Southern Rough Bottom Trip on June 21 was very good with many limit catches of Blueline and Golden Tilefish. A nice mix of Rosefish, White Hake and Barrelfish also came over the rails. The highlight of the trip was on Monday, June 22 when Emil Jaskot caught a huge Broad Alfonsino (Beryx decadactylus). Emil was reeling up a couple of Rosefish when the big Alfonsino decided to snack on one of them.

Emil's Broad Alfonsino was weighed in at The Reel Seat in Brielle, NJ at 19.7 pounds (19 pounds 11.2 ounces) and measured 30 inches in length. A NJ marine biologist inspected the fish and confirmed its identity and measurements. Emil's fish crushes the current IGFA All-Tackle World Record fish (8 pounds 5 ounces) by 11 pounds 6 ounces and IGFA certification is pending.

Captain Steve of the LADY M out of the Highlands said that the ling fishing is as good as you can ask for, with everyone going home with "more than" a few dinners. Some toothless sea flatties are also starting to be caught at this time....

Captain Jimmy of the JAMES JOSEPH fishing fleet sent this over in the morning of another XXL size summer flounder coming up on the boat....

For those who didn't know what came through our area of Brooklyn yesterday afternoon with one of the worst June summer squalls in memory with hail the size of ice cubes coming down for almost 10 minutes, and winds gusting to over 50 miles an hour took trees down around the neighborhood. Here Captain Mike of the HUNTER is standing by as the grey clouds move towards them in Jamaica Bay....

I spoke with Captain Kenny Higgins last night about the biscuit fishing over the last few days and he said the size of the fish at this time of the year will give some very nice fillets, but you do have to fish for them. It is highly recommended to bring along some small jigs and teasers since the fish are preferring this combination right now....

Captain Jason passed along this report:

Today, off Westport

About 5 minutes from the river, we had sea bass limits for John, Armindo and Jessica in about two hours. Then we got even closer to the river and went for fluke....

On top is John with the best fluke out of over 30 we had in the next two hours (only 8 keepers). At least we have some very interesting fluke nearby this year as opposed to last year where there we NONE. I am happy next pic is Armindo with a true "Monstah Sea Bass"!!!

Jessica wins the prize for the most fluke caught!

I even had a legal blackfish (and a few shorts) while we were sea bassing....Some giant scup and a few bluefish rounded out the catch. In short, we had constant action and lots of fish to take home. I believe if it is this good just outside the river we will really like what some of the more distant spots have in store for us!

On that note, Friday and Saturday (July 3rd and 4th) are full, the 5th (Coxes Ledge) has two spots available (5am start, $175/person.). July 6th (Noman's Island fluke and sea bass) has one spot available (6am-noon, $150).

July 7th is now taking reservations for Newport Fluke (6am-noon, $150/person) with a probable stop on the way back (in Ma. waters) for sea bass. The 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th are available for charter.

The 9th is "Regular Thursday Inshore Open Boat" (sea bass and/or fluke, 6-11am. $125/person. 4 spots left).

If the 11th and/or the 12th are not booked with charters by the 8th I will announce open boat trips for then as well.

Please be sure to reply only to: fishinglsister@aol.com for questions/reservations and be sure to include your name and phone #. See you soon!

This is interesting news sent over this morning about the FISHERMAN mag now going to a month issue after 55 years. How times have so radically changed in print fishing media where socialized media now is the place for real-time fishing reports from both the captains and the fishing public...

Some July 4th 2020 weekend along our shoreline, and a great escape here in NYC as we had a wild west shooting within the five boroughs which harkens back to levels not seen in a quarter of a century. Anyway, from what it seems it was a weekend to remember especially for Joey 'Chestnut and I did see more private vessels fishing in this area when compared to what I saw at this time last year'.....

It is that time of the season for freshly caught New Jersey blue claws. A dab of some 'Old Bay' seasoning and you're set to dig into this tasty treat....

The Captain Jason Colby - LITTLE SISTER report:

We had a couple of "less than stellar" trips!

The Coxes Ledge Cod Trip was more like a dogfish, bergall and small scup trip. We had to struggle to put 9 keeper cod aboard and we sent about twice that many shorts back as well. Only a few jumbo sea bass on the way back as well as a couple of big bluefish. A tough trip for sure!

Yesterday I was supposed to go to Noman's Island but that didn't happen and that's probably a good thing. With the moon tide I'm pretty sure the bite would have been "off". Even the local sea bass that we ended up fishing for, which had been "limits in two hours or less" took us three hours to catch 80% of the limit (Dalton "may have" caught 9 or 10 jumbos himself). Then we spent almost two hours looking for local fluke but that was not happening either. The wind had come up so hard that even in shallow water we were having trouble holding with 14 ounce sinkers.

Now that the bad news is out of the way, todays Newport Fluke Trip was not so bad. Good quality fish came up with a few that were over the 5 pound mark and everyone had a couple of jumbo sea bass as well. We tried four different spots and we came back to the closest one last (first stop there we only had one fish). That was the ticket and only 16 minutes out The River!

Dennis M. was out the other day and had a few tuna, but look at the size of those bluefish....

Marc from FISHARK ADVENTURES was out with Captain Nate and said the fishing was so fast and furious, that Captain Nate had to start cutting at 9am and did not finish until 3. Marc said this was some of the best fishing of the summer season with these fish being caught within a reasonable distance from the dock, and the size of the whiting now stretching out to baseball bat size. A true mixed bag of whiting, redfish, ling, macks and haddock filled out the coolers, and of course a number of cod were safely released on this trip....

Marc from FISHARK ADVENTURE was doing his 'ANNE B' Friday coffin cooler filling trips where Sergio, his dad and the Jersey boys made double, triple and quadruple loads up from the bottom throughout the day. and Marc said you could not ask for any better fishing on just one drop at this time, and fishing within a reasonable distance from the dock....
