It is that time of the year where those in the USCG are patrolling our regional waters and may request to do a vessel boarding to check fishery permits. Make sure you have all your vessel paper together as well as permits (which are normally 'OPEN ACCESS') not only on the vessel, but as much "current."

Go through this check list:

NOAA FISHERIES: Vessel Documentation Search By Name

Take the USCG Doc. No. and then check it here by entering in the Coast Guard Documentation box:

Current Greater Atlantic Region Vessel Permit Data

Which will bring up the latest: Most Recent Northeast Federal Fishery Permit Data where you will see which permits and the start and end dates for the year in that fishery.

Those who engage in Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (Atlantic tunas, sharks, swordfish and billfish):

HMS - SELECT A PERMIT

Those who wish to retain mahi:

SERO PERMIT OFFICE

Clicking on APP #1 brings you to this multi-page PDF:

1 FEDERAL PERMIT APPLICATION FOR VESSELS FISHING IN THE EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE (EEZ

Pay particular attention to page 2:

Any questions, discrepancies or information, contact the NOAA/SERO/GARFO telephone numbers on those pages. In particular:
